Sofia SURGUCHEVA
Sofia SURGUCHEVA, Russia (International Master’s Program “Business Engineering”)
Previously, I studied under the bachelor's program "Business Informatics" and the Master's program was a continuation of the development of business-analytic skills.
The curriculum included both advanced courses in familiar subjects and completely new ones. For example, this course was project management, which was organized with a Finnish teacher remotely. Also in the second year of study, there were several other subjects with a teacher from Finland. It was a very interesting experience, as foreign teachers submit material according to their own methods and standards, as well as make other requirements for students. In particular, it was very useful to get acquainted with the remote educational platform, where we were given the opportunity to choose the subject of interest.
Teachers have done their best to provide students with an environment conducive to the implementation of research activities. I do not regret that I decided to stay at the Polytechnic and continue my master's degree. These were two interesting, eventful and unforgettable years, during which I received a lot of useful experience.

Zilia BIKKULOVA, Russia (International Master’s Program “Business Engineering”)
I chose a program Business Engineering because I was very attracted by the opportunity to study what I like, as well as getting experience in partner universities.
My Master’s degree thesis is Service-Oriented Architecture of Artificial Intelligence System in Healthcare. Also, during study, I had opportunity to took internship in Finland and it helped me got ahead in my work.
I would like to wish foreign students to come and learn more about our country and its culture. Do not be afraid to communicate with classmates, especially local ones, do not hesitate to ask them questions if something is unclear. Be no less active than local classmates, in pairs and (especially) in teamwork.

Viktoria ILYASHENKO, Russia (International Master’s Program “Business Engineering”)
Studying on an international program was very interesting: unique content, professional teachers, friendly group and so on.
For the second year of my working on my Master thesis “Business Intelligence” I took an opportunity to study in a partner university in Finland to receive a double degree. It gave me a unique experience.
Now I’m planning to apply for my PhD.
I think international students should come and try International Master degree programs in Polytech! Don’t miss the chance to use the possibility of getting double degree.

I've never considered other options of education: countries or universities except Russia and Polytech.
The most memorable thing is communication with teachers and students from all over the world. Unforgettable experience!
My further plan for my life is to try building a career in an international company. I’m sure that my knowledge and skills in the sphere of my master’s thesis “Digital product marking” will be a great use in my in my future aspirations.
I would like to advise future international students to be ready for the cold, take warm clothes and not to be afraid to dare because it will be an essential experience in your life!
Raphael GHERMAN, (International Master’s Program “Smart Nanostructures and Condensed Matter Physics”)
One day I realised that I want to go study abroad. And it was not difficult for me to make a choice. Russia is a mysterious country for European people, it is not Asia but the culture is far enough from the occidental one. Moreover it's a luck to go to Russia because it is not a country that our parents or grandparents could have visited… It was not easy to dare to Russia from the faraway.

I will remember a lot from this adventure: courses, sport, parties, student's life, good times but hard work. And very useful class researchers. My Master’s degree thesis is not finished yet and it’s dedicated to material science. Polytech has everything for me: new laboratories, professional teachers and useful courses.
Now, I’m going to finish my engineering school in France and do a PhD, I want to work in education after that.
And also, as an advise for international students I would say: Don’t be afraid and plan a lot of travel in the country. It is a regret for me that I had to return back without seeing any other place except St. Petersburg.

According to what I believe St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, is one of the most amazing places to study in Russia. The campus is well placed in the city giving us the feeling of not lost somewhere far. Even though English is rarely spoken outside the campus, it is still worthwhile enabling us to experience the life in the real International way. The department is extremely friendly and caters much of all of the needs of the students and supports them well.
While it is important to say that the Department and the University is filled with opportunities to excel oneself in new ways. With opportunities to learn and apply, I have had the opportunity to work the Gazprom Polytech REC, moving through various research projects, applying things that we know in a practical level.
In addition, one can also find fully funded external and international internships for the summer in different companies within Russia and outside. For myself, I had the opportunity to work with the Solid Mechanics Laboratory in Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France during the summer which is one of the amazing experience °ʷʼ¼ has to offer.
Conclusively, one can almost say, that Polytech is filled with opportunities that many other universities fail to provide to international students. And so far I have had had the best experience with the faculties, the department and Russia while studying at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
Umut POLAT
Umut POLAT, Turkey (International Master’s Program “Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling”)
As a master student of mechanics and mathematical modelling, I am satisfied with the education we have undertaken at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. I believe, upon graduation, I will have necessary skills which Oil and Gas industry requires. The focus of our education in °ʷʼ¼ was to turn the theoretical foundations into practical applications.
Our program coordinator Ksenia Frolova was always very helpful and available for answering our questions about our education process.
Furthermore, I have enjoyed living in beautiful St. Petersburg and learning Russian. I have met many friends from different cultures while studying in St. Petersburg and I have made long lasting friendships.
Lastly, I would like to cite that, choosing this program in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University was a good idea for determining my goals and consider my future career in this area.
Alexandra PYATYSHEVА
Alexandra PYATYSHEVА, Russia (International Master's Program “Continuum Mechanics: Fundamentals and Applications”)
It was not difficult to decide to study in Polytechnic University because I am from Russia and it’s the best technical university in my country. I didn’t consider any other country because Russia has a decent level of education (especially at my Department).
As an °ʷʼ¼ student I had a great opportunity to take 5 months Erasmus+ internship in Germany. I will obviously remember it as a great time spent abroad writing my Master thesis ”The influence of small internal friction on the properties of an acoustic metamaterial-a linear isotropic Kosser medium”. Further I would like to devote myself to the research work. Not necessarily in Russia.
International students planning to come to Russia – just do it!
Gleb GORBATOVSKY, graduated in 2016 (International Master’s Program “Laser and Fiber Optic Systems”)
I graduated from the Polytechnic University in 2016 and received the master's degree.
From the end of the 3rd year to the present, I have been working at the Radar MMS enterprise in the laboratory of digital devices. Initially, my responsibilities included the development and debugging of modules for FPGAs. Later, I started modeling radar information processing, which is necessary for building and testing new algorithmic solutions during product development. Along with modeling, I also programmed digital signal processors. Combining work and study for two years of master's program, I was able to prepare the master's thesis on the topic "Simulation of a digital pulse-Doppler radar station".
The skills and knowledge acquired by me at the university are constantly used in my work at the enterprise. Quite often, I have to deal with the need to solve various issues related to signal processing, which would not be possible without the good general theoretical and mathematical training that I received at the Polytechnic. From my experience of communicating with my employer, I can say that Polytechnic graduates are highly valued in Radar MMS. I am sure that this is true not only for this enterprise, but also for other companies.
Alina GALICHINA, graduated in 2016 (International Master’s Program “Laser and Fiber Optic Systems”)
In 2016, I received master's degree. During the education I received basic knowledge and skills in building fiber-optic communication networks, using the basic functional elements. The theme of my master's thesis was “Acousto-optic functional elements for fiber-optic communication systems”. The work was dedicated to the development of a unique switch of fiber-optic channels.
Since the first year of the master's program, I have been working at the Research Institute “Vector” JSC in the department of radar and digital communication systems. At work, I design high-frequency analog and digital fiber-optic lines for delivering antenna array signals to a data processing unit through a zone of high electromagnetic interference, as well as conducting internships for students whose training was related to fiber optics.
Arseny CHERENKOV, graduated in 2015 (International Master’s Program “Laser and Fiber Optic Systems”)
I graduated in 2015 and received a master's degree. The theme of my master's thesis was "The study of physical principles of operation of microstructured fibers modulation devices filled with magnetic fluid for fiber optic telecommunication systems". The work on the thesis was very exciting and I am very grateful to my supervisor Prof. Ivan Pleshakov.
In the 1st year of the course, I got a job at JSC "Russian Institute of radio navigation and time" in the Radiophysics laboratory of prospective studies. Engaged in the rubidium frequency standards that are part of the satellite system GLONASS I had a lot of responsibilities. I designed the laser driver module, led measurement protocols. Then I decided to try myself at programming.
Our education allows one to look around and after a month of reading, I got a job as a programmer of microcontrollers in JSC "Avangard". I simultaneously worked and accumulated knowledge in this area. I was entrusted with an interesting project on a device for measuring the conductivity of liquids. After working there for just over six months, I received an offer from JSC "Telros". At the moment I'm working in JSC "Telros" as a programmer.
Vladimir MALIJ, graduated in 2015 (International Master’s Program “Laser and Fiber Optic Systems”)
At the institute of physics, nanotechnology and communications I learned the basics of fiber-optic communication systems, the functions of the main elements, the most important parameters of the systems, as well as the advantages of certain methods, ranges, and communication devices. During the education, I learned telecommunications development in the world, which helped me choose an interesting topic for the master's thesis and continue scientific work as PhD student.
At the moment, I am working in the central marine design department "Almaz". I am engaged in the development, design, location of posts and antennas, the calculation of main parameters of communication systems used on surface combat ships, rescue and research vessels.
Ibrahim IKBAL
Ibrahim IKBAL, Turkey (International Master’s Program “Electrical Engineering”)
Initially, I am from Turkey, but I can't say it was difficult to come to Russia. Maybe because after my bachelor I had opportunity to work here for a while. And after that I realised that it is very exciting for me to learn Russian language and culture.
So, I thought the best way to do it is to come here and apply to university. I chose Polytech.
Now I am studying for master degree and learning language at the same time. My thesis is "Research of Grid Integration of a 10 kW Rooftop Solar Power Plant in Turkey”.
But my life in Russia is not limited to studying. I will remain impressed with the streets and buildings of St. Petersburg for the rest of my life. Slightly cold but in meantime cozy days will also always be in my heart.
After my graduation, I will try to find good opportunity here. I’d like to stay in St. Petersburg for a while longer.
My advice to international students planning to come here is to take Russian course (if they don't speak it). It will make your life here much more easier.
