Nowruz was celebrated at the Polytechnic University. The participants got acquainted with the cultures of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Syria, China and Russia. The program included a stand-session of the countries, ethno-defile, concert numbers and national treats.

The multinational community of polytechnics annually celebrates Nowruz. Welcoming speeches were delivered by Natalia Chicherina, Director of the Institute Humanities, Pavel Nedelko, Assistant Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and honored guests: Nurgeldi Seyidov, Director of the Turkmen Society «MECAN» in St. Petersburg, Mohammed Naim Gol, Chairman of the United Afghan Center in St. Petersburg, and Waddah Al-Jundi, Ambassador of Russian Education and Science, Director of the Center for Russian-Arab Cultural and Business Cooperation, Co-Chairman of the Russian-Syrian Society.

More than 300 million people around the world celebrate this bright holiday, and it has been recognized as a UNESCO heritage since 2009. It is very valuable that in such a respected university many students celebrate it every year, said Nurgeldi Seyidov.

At the ethno-defile, representatives of the participating countries demonstrated their national costumes: Azerbaijani national women’s costume, colorful Tajik and Turkmen costumes, pirantumbon — a traditional Afghan costume consisting of a long shirt and wide pants.

Students from different countries performed dance and vocal pieces.

At the stand-session of the countries, guests could get acquainted with the attributes of different cultures and treat themselves to national dishes.

The celebration was organized by a large team of students and staff of the Humanities Institute in cooperation with the Higher School of International Educational Programs and with the support of the 新澳门历史开彩记录 Youth Policy Council, the Harmony Volunteer Project Center, the GI International Students community, TutorForces and PolyUnion.
